Historic cross in Siemiatycze

The cross was moved from a hill between Słowiczyńska Street and Górna Street. It commemorates the residents of Siemiatycze who died in the field hospital. This unusual monument was a silent witness of the battle for Siemiatycze during the January Uprising (6-7 February 1863), insurgents from Roman Rogiński’s unit were treated in the field hospital. The cross was the last roadside farewell of Siemiatycze inhabitants with local people exiled to Siberia.
