The Reserve was established in 1990. It occupies the area of 24.16 hectares. It is a forest reserve whose protective purpose is to preserve the natural fragment of the wet-ground forest characteristic for the Drohiczyn Upland with a dominant sessile oak 150-180 years old. It is very valuable natural fragment of the wet-ground forest, representing ancient trees of the former Mielnik Primeval Forest. The stand is dominated by grand oaks as well as some lindens, pines and other trees with a lower level of hornbeams. In a typical wet-ground forest undergrowth rare and protected species grow. The reserve is also a refuge for numerous species of animals and birds.
